You can take the route 24 to Tsuchiura and then take route 354 onto the pacific beach, Kyo-Si(? ÌÈò±).  It is about 50km but takes 1.5 hours.  But it IS worth of your time and money.  Many beaches and surfers.

Surfers, taking on the waves.

Waiting for a perfect wave.

He's on it.

Yes!

I didn't expect to see this but a Korean restaurant on the beach.

None of friends wanted to go to the beach so I went alone.  I bought a chair (Coleman, 2,000 yen, made in China) and the Parasol (600 yen) from Alpene(not Alpine, a sport gear shop in the south of Tsukuba). The Coleman sandal is 3,000 yen.  Yes, a Coleman enjoying the sun and the beach.

The beach, Kyo-Si(? ÌÈò±, 1.5 hours drive to west of Tsuchiura and Tsukuba), was not crowded at all even though many families and lovers are on the beach.  Also, it was an weekend.  If you go there on the weekdays, you will see less people.  I love it.

I don't know why Japanese women prefer to wear Bikinis but much better looking than I expected.  I never saw any women wearing one piece swim suit that day.

Is this legal?  I am sure she knew I was right there but she didn't care.
Japanese new generations are called "New Race(ãæìÑ×¾)."  Now I get it.

I also went to O-a-ra-i beach near Mito city.  There is a factory outlet(a shopping mall) that sells brand apparels at lower prices and very next to the mall is O-a-ra-i beach.  The water wasn't clearer and you see more people on the beach than Kyo-Si but the festivity is more enjoyable.

Me and a surfing/floating doplhin(of the son of my friend).  I suffered the burns for days.  You defintely need a sunblock cream.
